This year our group has fifteen people (Arlan, Jared, Tim, Shannon, Tom, Morgan, Tony, Little Tony, Matthew, Dave, Ari, Harlan, Haven, Jeremy and Wyatt) with guests Scott Weiberg and Scott Hilgeman and wives hanging out with us often.
Glenn was home trying to recoup from his fight with cancer again this fall. He found out that he has colon cancer about 3 weeks ago and has started chemotherapy treatment.
Youth Hunt - (Saturday, Oct 23rd) - Parker shot a yearling doe (100 lb.) in the evening on some of Hilgeman's land. Shannon had his boys out for the youth hunt this year. He got them set up and they had fun hunting for the first time.

Opening day (Saturday, Nov 6th) - Jared shot a yearling doe (96 lb.) in the morning up north on Chervestad land and Tom shot a 3 point buck (125 lbs.) on the same property. It was a good morning, about 41 degrees and no snow, no wind. Some people stayed up to late Friday night though. Tom made breakfast for all - fried potatoes and all kinds of fixins in it.

On evening post - Morgan (67 lbs.) got a doe up north. Ari got a doe (77 lds.) in the path in no man's land woods. Arlan shot a doe fawn (57 lbs.) on Elmer Rustan's hay meadow.

By the end of day 1 we had 5 deer hanging in the quonset. It was a nice fall day from 41 to 54 degrees much of the day.

On Sunday the 7th - Weather this morning is about 47 degrees with a light wind and clear sky. We usually eat dinner at the Nazareth church on the opening weekend Sunday, last year they had to cancel it due to the pandemic. Today we get to have the meatball dinner again. Thank God for the ladies that feed us so good!
Tom got 2 deer on his morning post up north, one was a doe (137 lbs.) and the other was a 9 point buck (231 lbs.). The buck was mighty nice and will likely be a shoulder mount for the wall. Shannon and Tom carefully caped it when skinning this afternoon.

Matthew shot a 8 point buck (125 lbs.) this morning and Tony shot a doe (100 lbs.) this morning.

It has been a very mild day. We will be using the grill to make supper tonight likely. Nicole and Scott and the kids are coming over to join us tonight too.
Towards the days end Ari got a 2 point buck (126 lbs.) - the buck only had tines on it's right side, the other side was not existant. He may have been hurt in years past and never grew more horns on that side. He was a big bodied buck.

We had 10 deer hanging by the end of the weekend.

On Monday the 8th - It is still a clear fall morning and probably to warm for the deer to move much today.
Dave shot a 4 point buck (111 lbs.) at the Nierson woods today.
Who got this buck
We got to visit a while in the shack this evening. Some of the crew had to return to work and some are off for the week.
This is what we have by Monday evening
We had 12 deer hanging by the end of Monday.

On Tuesday the 9th - Still no snow.
Tony shot a 5 point buck (124 lbs.) on the south side of the Triangle piece from a ground blind this evening.
We had 13 deer hanging by the end of Tuesday. Tony's is the one closest (sorry no skin or head) and there are no more ropes from the ceiling.

I spent some time working on the brakes on my Traverse and then put the snow plow on the truck for the winter. And I got a new window put in the newer trailer house in the deer shack yard - the trailer is not yet move in ready but it is at least clean and weatherproof.
On Friday the 12th - The weather this morning is 28 degrees and cloudy. We had a couple inches of snow on top of the 2 days of rain. It is very wet and sloppy. We possibly will cut up some deer meat today since we have lots and the weather is not good. I cleaned up the garage a bit and turned on the heat this morning.
