This year we started our deer hunting season with Cole Dazel doing the youth hunt again. Cole got a nice spike buck in the first few hours of the season. What a good start for the hunting season.
This year our group has thirteen people (Glenn, Arlan, Jared, Tim, Shannon, Tom, Morgan, Little Tony, Matthew, Andrew, Dave, Scott and Nick). Opening day (Saturday the 7th) Dave shot a doe to start off the day and Scott shot 2 small deer in the afternoon.
On Tuesday the 10th, Shannon drove out to his favorite hunting spot and saw a deer as he pulled in to the crossing. As he was walking to his stand he found the small doe again and was able to bring it down. He wasn't even able to catch a nap in his stand today.
On Wednesday the 11th, it started out a drizzly cool morning. Still no snow on the ground for our entire hunt. It is quiet at the deer camp as many are at work or have other projects today. We got no deer today for the people in our group. We have had a bunch of fun visiting with Scott and Renae most evenings and eating her good food. The whole group contributes and there is always plenty to eat and drink. We made sure that Scott has deer to take back home because he is "good people" to have around.
On Thursday the 12th, it is forecast to be a gloomy day. Maybe the deer will move better. We are particularly after a couple deer in a woods north of us. One is a nice buck (10-12 point with a big body). He has terrorized a couple of our hunters by sneaking around and blowing at them and then he is gone in a flash.
On Friday the 13th (watch out for the spooks guys), a few of us were able to hunt today. Most of the day we had 6 guys hunting or sitting around visiting. Jared shot a small nub buck just before dinner to start us out. Then about 4:00pm Scotty shot the big 11 point buck (weighing in at 175 pounds dressed out with his hide on. He may shoulder mount this one. That buck is done giving us the run around now! Tim also shot a nice doe towards evening (weighing in at 96.8 pounds).
