Hunting 2011

Hofstad hunting stuff

This year our group has twelve people (Glenn, Arlan, Jared, Tim, Shannon, Tom (and Morgan), Shawn, Tony, Little Tony, Andrew, Scott and Nick). Opening day (Saturday the 5th) we shot 2 deer, then Sunday the 6th we shot 2 deer. So for the first weekend we had 4 deer hanging.
Monday the 7th 2 deer was shot (one by Tim and one by Andrew) - the long, long walk around the Hofstad tree line left us with nothing as we watched the three deer run away again. Tuesday the 8th we shot 1 deer. Wednesday the 9th we shot 1 deer. Thursday Nick & Tony shot 3 deer, but 1 was feverish/infected (lose it / snap / out of control) so we left it in the woods. We shot 1 deer (so far) on Friday the 11th.
On Saturday we don't know what's going on because I am writing this on Wednesday. It was a good day every day of hunting (except for the wind), we started about 6am and sat in stands or scouted around looking for signs of deer. Then we met for coffee and goodies, discussing what we should do for the next hunt.
When will we cut up the deer meat this year? Jared may have to shoot a buck on Sunday the 13th as he did last year.
A total of 11 deer for the season with 2 adult bucks (which were 190 & 110 pounds each, gutted), 4 adult does and 5 fawns. We have been trying out the new electric winch\trolley system and even used the golf ball method of skinning a couple deer with the winch and a hook in the floor.
Can you taste the venison chili already, it's a good easy meal?
Stop by the Hofstad camp and see the antlers we are gaining. We have stories to tell and food/drink to share.
